Inheritance tax and estate planning

You are here: Home » Our services » Inheritance tax and estate planning

When you’ve worked hard to achieve financial security, it makes sense to protect your wealth. You also want to make sure the people you love are financially secure when you are no longer around.

With inheritance tax (IHT) currently levied at 40 percent on estates above a £325,000 threshold, and the price of many homes pushing estates over the IHT threshold, taking expert advice to reduce unwelcome future tax bills for your family is likely to be a wise investment.

This situation is helped by the introduction of the residence nil rate band, which is being phased in from 6th April 2017 over a four year period. However, there are restrictions on how this new allowance can be used, meaning that it will not be of use to everyone and means that expert advice will still be required to ensure you are able to take advantage of this additional allowance.

MT Financial Management can assist with IHT planning arrangements, with easy access to the tax specialists at our sister firm Moore Thompson Chartered Accountants adding extra value. Our service includes:

  • a review of the current financial position of your estate
  • advice on the options available to you in reducing your inheritance tax liability
  • liaison with other professional advisers, such as your accountant, solicitor or tax adviser.

Fees for our inheritance tax and estate planning services will vary, depending on your circumstances. We will explain our fees to you at our first meeting and you will pay nothing until we have confirmed our fees to you in writing and you have agreed these and what we propose to do for you.
