Youthful recruitment campaign pays off for MT Financial Management

New Staff 5Four new young staff members have been recruited by a leading East of England firm of Independent Financial Planners, MT Financial Management.

The firm, which is partnered with one of the region’s fastest growing accountancy practices Moore Thompson, has recently welcomed the new recruits as part of an ongoing expansion of their services in the region.

The appointments include Monika Jovaisaite (aged 19) who has joined as administrator and Thierry Williams (aged 22), who has begun his studies as a trainee paraplanner.

The firm has also recently been joined by Michael Pinion, who is a Diploma qualified paraplanner (aged 32) and at the end of last year it hired Gintare Jonusaite (age 18) as an administrator.

One of the region’s only firms of Chartered Financial Planners celebrates latest qualification

MT Financial Management, holders of the prestigious Chartered Financial Planner status, has congratulated Daniel Elkington on achieving qualification success.

Looking to further progress his career, Daniel Elkington joined the practice at the end of 2017, with aspirations of practising at the highest level, within a leading firm of financial planning experts.

After months of hard work and dedication he has managed to complete the qualification, which marks him out as a leading expert in the profession as he is not only Chartered, but a fellow of the Personal Finance Society (PFS) in addition.

Prior to joining the firm, Daniel built up almost a decade’s worth of experience in the world of finance, which led to him becoming a runner-up at the Money Management Financial Planner Awards 2017 for his expertise in alternative assets.

Highly talented financial specialist joins MT Financial Management

Daniel has almost a decade’s worth of experience in the world of finance and was a runner-up at this year’s prestigious Money Management Financial Planner Awards for his expertise in alternative assets.

Put together by Money Management, which is the technical journal of The Financial Times for advisers, the award attracted the attention of MTFM who thought Daniel would be the ideal candidate for their latest IFP position.

He specialises in advising high net-worth clients, trustees, charities and businesses on a range of wealth management matters, such as pension planning, Enterprise Investment Schemes, alternative investments and much more.

Daniel can also provide support to clients with their wider investment portfolios and assist with the decision whether to transfer final salary pension and CARE schemes.

Moore Thompson strengthens its online accountancy expertise with new accreditations

Staff at one of the East of England’s leading accountancy firms, Moore Thompson, have strengthened the firm’s provision of online accountancy services by gaining accreditation from Xero – one of the industry’s leading software providers.

Matthew Upex, a Manager at Moore Thompson’s Market Deeping Office and Jodie North, an Associate Senior, have both completed professional training and are now Certified Xero Advisors.

This means that they are able to provide detailed advice to clients on the use of Xero’s online accountancy packages, which make use of the cloud to allow management teams to assess their accounts in real-time, using any connected device, anywhere in the world.

The system, which has taken the businesses world by storm, has become all the more important in recent years as the UK Government seeks to digitise the tax process.

As early as 2020, business above the VAT threshold (£85,000) will be required to report all of their tax details online on a quarterly basis, with smaller businesses to follow suit in future.

Moore Thompson hopes to make tax less taxing at upcoming seminar

The event, due to be held at the South Holland Centre in Market Place, Spalding (PE11 1SS) on Wednesday 18 October 2017, will explore a wide range of tax issues and will seek to bring clarity to the UK’s ever-changing tax regime with concise and engaging presentations from Moore Thompson’s team.

Special guest speaker, Giles Mooney – a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser, who has been involved in UK tax training for more than two decades – will also share his expertise with the assembled guests.

This is the second year that the conference has been held by the firm and it follows on from its successful event in 2016, which saw a large audience gather to learn more about the latest changes to tax.

This year’s event will focus on Making Tax Digital, explaining what it will mean for local businesses and the next steps that they will need to take to be ready for the phasing in of the new online taxation system in 2020.

Moore Thompson opens the door to experienced payroll manager

KieranOne of the East of England’s leading accountancy firms, Moore Thompson, has welcomed an experienced payroll expert to help head up its growing team.

Kieran Smith joins the firm, which has offices in Spalding, Market Deeping and Wisbech, from Boston College where he worked his way up from apprentice to the position of Payroll Manager.

He will take on a similar role at Moore Thompson, drawing upon his experience and prestigious Higher National Diploma in Payroll Management to assist clients.

Speaking about his appointment, Kieran said: “I am really looking forward to helping lead the payroll team at Moore Thompson, which continues to see increased interest in its services from local businesses.

“I hope that I can build upon the success of my predecessors and continue to deliver the high levels of service that clients have come to expect of the practice.”

Professionals prepare for annual Moore Thompson charity quiz

mark-hildred-prBusiness leaders and professionals from across the East of England are preparing for Moore Thompson’s popular annual charity quiz.

This is the fourth time that the competition, which regularly sees some of the region’s top business brains face off against one another to be crowned the winner, has been held.

This year’s event will take place on 5 October 2017 at the South Holland Centre in Spalding and will raise money for Lincolnshire Autistic Society, which is dedicated to building awareness and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders.

This cause was specially selected in memory of Jenny Nicolson, a much loved former tax manager at Moore Thompson’s Spalding office, who passed away in 2016.

Jenny had worked for Moore Thompson for many years and was an extremely enthusiastic quiz aficionado, which is why her colleagues thought it fitting to hold the latest competition in her memory.

Speaking about the upcoming quiz, Moore Thompson’s Managing Partner, Mark Hildred said: “Everyone is really looking forward to this year’s quiz and we already have a number of teams who have expressed a strong interest in taking part in hopes of taking home a prize.

“This year is particularly special for our team in light of it raising money for a charity that Jenny was a keen supporter of and we hope that we will be able to raise a significant amount for this cause.”
The event will also feature a raffle, which will include prizes donated by a number of local organisations and businesses to help rack up the fundraising total.

The Moore Thompson Charity Fund CIO, the firm’s own in-house charitable organisation which hosts the quiz, was officially launched in 2014 and is led by a board of trustees made up of staff members from the firm’s three offices. Last year it raised more than £3,000 for LIVES and Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Moore Thompson helps businesses to prepare for new data protection regulations

mark-hildred-prFrom 25 May 2017, businesses across the UK will come under the net of new data protection rules, which if ignored could lead to significant fines and sanctions.

In order to help companies prepare for this change, leading accountants, Moore Thompson, are to host a free seminar on Wednesday 20 September 2017 at the South Holland Centre in Market Place, Spalding.

The event will feature a discussion on the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which will include presentations from the Moore Thompson team and Alan Owen, Managing Director of data security specialists, ICARIS Sentinel.

Starting at 4.30pm, the free seminar will cover the rights of data subjects, stricter sanctions for non-compliance and the role of data protection officers within a company, amongst a number of other topics.

Making Tax Digital delayed, but businesses can still gain from online accounting, says Moore Thompson

mark-hildred-prOne of the East of England’s leading firms of accountants is calling on businesses to continue preparing for the introduction of digital taxation, despite new Government plans to delay the new regime.

Moore Thompson has said that companies across the region need to get ready for Making Tax Digital – the Government’s new online tax system – by incorporating online accounting software into their business.

It has been revealed that this new system, described by many as the biggest change to taxation in more than 70 years, will begin to be rolled out for businesses above the VAT threshold in April 2019.

For the first year, these businesses will only need to report VAT-related taxes on a quarterly basis online using MTD accounting software or via a spreadsheet fed into similar systems.

Businesses will not be asked to keep digital records, or to update HMRC quarterly, for other taxes until at least 2020.

Companies, sole traders and landlords below the VAT threshold will still be able to use the Making Tax Digital system on a voluntary basis to record and report their tax affairs.

This differs drastically from the Government’s previous plans, which would have seen all businesses, landlords and self-employed taxpayers with an annual turnover of £10,000 or more register, file, pay, and update their information online each quarter.

Mark Hildred, Managing Partner at Moore Thompson, said: “While we welcome the Government’s changes to this onerous system, we still feel that many businesses aren’t yet prepared for Making Tax Digital.

“Even though plans have been delayed under these new plans by around one to two years, companies can still benefit from using online accounting systems.”

Online accounting packages, such as QuickBooks, Xero and Sage, allow businesses to monitor their performance and collaborate with their professional advisers in real-time. The packages also allowing them to safely and securely store invoices, receipts and other important documents in the cloud, added Mark.

“We have already assisted a number of companies to incorporate online accounting into their business and they are already reaping the benefits of these innovative systems. I would encourage all firms to explore the potential benefits of the software on offer, whether they are bound by digital taxation or not.”
